Lakeway Earns Platinum Scenic City Certification

Scenic City Platinum Award Emblem

In a post from the Scenic City Certification Program this month, it was announced that the City of Lakeway became a platinum level 2020 Certified Scenic City. That is the highest level available for the Scenic City Certification Program, which is a nationally recognized, one-of-a-kind model, developed to provide communities with a comprehensive set of standards and evaluations for the design and development of public roadways and spaces. The certification is in place for five years (until 2025), at which time Lakeway can re-apply for the certification.

A total of 19 Texas cities either earned or were recertified as a Scenic City this year. Of those 19, only five other Texas cities earned the platinum (or highest) certification. Lakeway was able to rank up to the platinum level during recertification. There are a total of 85 certified scenic cities across Texas.

The Scenic Cities score sheet includes items such as landscaping requirements, parks and trails, lighting standards for public spaces, protection of landscaping during construction activities, ordinances pertaining to littering/graffiti, and off-premises signage. A majority of responses are based on current city ordinances already in place. The scoring is based on a possible earning point system of 338, of which Lakeway received 314 (304+ earns platinum level certification).
