Heritage Committee

Overview

The Lakeway Heritage Commission was formed by a resolution of the City Council on July 16, 2001. Prior to that time, the organization was known as the Lakeway Historical Society, which was established in December 1988. They became a non-profit organization on March 31, 1993.

The Lakeway City Council re-established the commission as the Lakeway Heritage Committee on Sept. 17, 2018.

The Committee was organized exclusively for these historical, educational, advisory and civic purposes:

• To develop among residents of Lakeway, and its environs, a pride in the heritage, growth and development of their community;
• To educate the youth of the community about its historical significance;
• To promote the community’s historical sites and legends to educate the general public and publicize the community;
• To establish a Lakeway Museum and Library to provide historical research facilities for citizens of the community;
• To collect, preserve, catalog, store and display historical items significant to the history and heritage of the Lakeway community and surrounding area; and,
• To serve as a repository for historical documents related to local area government, civic, and recreational organizations

Mission

The Lakeway Community Archives is committed to collecting, preserving and maintaining those materials of enduring value that document the community’s origin and development. Furthermore the Archives is dedicated to providing secure, open access to these materials for historical research and educational purposes for the entire Lakeway community and other interested users. The public may access these Archives at the Lakeway Heritage Center.
