War Veterans

Notice to Lakeway and Lakeway ETJ residents

Lakeway Heritage Center is seeking the names of local residents who are now serving or who have served on active duty as members of the armed forces during World War II, the Korean or Vietnam wars.

We are also seeking the names of those who served during the 1991 Persian Gulf War - Operation Desert Shield or Desert Storm or combat periods following September 11, 2001.

Formal recognition of those veterans occurs at the City of Lakeway's Veterans Day ceremony each year.

These veterans are eligible to have their names engraved upon the Spirit of Freedom Monument at Lakeway's Heritage Park, 963 Lohmans Crossing Road, in Lakeway.

The donation cost for an engraving on the SOFM is :

$160 for veterans of WWII-Vietnam

$175 for post-WWII, such as the Gulf War, Iraq, and post 9/11 conflicts.

Application with payment must be received no later than August 15.

Each year the engravings will be completed by October of that year, so the veterans can be recognized at the Veterans Day event. Application forms for monument engravings may be obtained from a small mailbox located at the entry to the monument or from inside the Heritage Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. You may also print this information and application by clicking here.

Army and Navy veterans from World War II - or their family members - are strongly urged to visit the monument before requesting an engraving to verify the location where names can be engraved. There is limited space available directly under the Army or Navy sections of the World War II obelisk. Questions may be answered via email or by calling (512)608-9533.

The cost for the engraving is considered an eligible tax-deductible donation.
