Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) dates have been cancelled due to COVID-19. We will post future HHW dates as soon as soon as they are scheduled.
Here are some resources to help take care of items safely:
Hazardous Waste and Electronics
You can take electronics and a variety of other items including hazardous waste and tires to the Austin Resource Recovery Center at 2514 Business Center Dr., Austin, TX 78744. Please call or check their website to make sure they are open and to see if you need an appointment. Their website is www.austintexas.gov/department/austin-resource-recovery and their phone number is 512.974.4343.
Latex paint can be thrown away in your trash can as long as it is dried out. You can speed up the drying process by adding paint hardener, kitty litter or paper scraps. Oil based paints cannot be disposed of this way and will need to be taken to a hazardous waste drop off or center.
Batteries and Light Bulbs
Batteries and light bulbs can be taken to Batteries Plus Bulbs 6317 Bee Caves Rd., Suite #300, Westlake Hills, 78746.
CVS at 2306 RR 620 South in Lakeway has a drop box for any unused prescriptions or medicine that need to be safely disposed of. The box is located inside the store near the pharmacy.
